the golden rule
The Golden Rule. Yes, that one. The classic. The OG life rule. But, in case you somehow missed it: treat others how you want to be treated.

Which is the polite, society-approved way of saying don't be a jerk.

RP spaces can get messy fast. We’ve all seen it. The vibes? Sometimes radioactive. We do not want that here. We have a zero tolerance policy for harassment, bullying, god-modding, line crossing and other toxic behavior.

If you’re wondering whether something counts, it probably does. Don’t do it. We’re here to build a space that’s safe, welcoming and fun, where writers can create, collaborate, and enjoy their characters without having to constantly dodge toxicity. Be respectful. Be decent. Follow the Golden Rule. It’s not hard. 🙂

joining
Alright. If you’re confident you can follow the Golden Rule and play nicely with others (gold star for you ⭐), let’s get you set up.

To join, you’ll need a journal, which can be IC or OOC, your choice. Just no underscores, no numbers. We believe in your creativity.

Before you jump in, make sure you have:

* At least one icon: pbds should follow the five year rule.
* A friends-only post (and yes… that means actually locked to friends only)
* An OOC/bio post, preferably friends-locked and screened

We’re not asking for writing samples — we’re chill, not monsters. However, you do need a biography with at least 250 words. Format is up to you! Traditional bio? Great. A neat list of facts? Also great. Organized chaos as long as it’s 250+ words? We’ll allow it. Put in the effort, follow the rules, and we’ll all have a good time. Easy.
pbs/face claims
All PBs must be 18+. No exceptions. If they’re under 18, it’s a hard no.

PBs are first come, first serve. If it’s taken, it’s taken. We do not accept overrides or challenges - this includes pbs in the apps awaiting holds. Respect it and pick someone else, there are plenty of hot people in the world, we promise.

We also ask that you stick to the 5-year rule. Keep things realistic and within range.

And finally, a PB must be fully removed from the game before it can be reused. That means dropped, cleared, and off the taken list. No calling dibs, no “pre-switch” holds, no loopholes.

Simple, straightforward, and keeps things fair for everyone.

activity requirements
Once you’re accepted (welcome to the party 🎉), we require you to post something interactive. That means a classic intro post, an ffa, or any other interactive chaos you'd like to unleash.

Not feeling like hosting your own thing? Totally fine. You can jump into a mod-hosted FFA instead. If you’re using the mod FFA as your intro, you must post a top comment and respond to your replies. We encourage you to comment around too! No ghosting. No drive-bys. If people tag you, you tag back! We’re here to interact, not decorate the walls.

We like to keep things chill around here. This is a hobby. A fun one! Not your second job. No one’s clocking in here. That said, we do require one update per month, per character. Yes, just one. You can do it. We believe in you!

What counts? A narrative, moodboard, multimedia post or whatever else your little creative heart can dream up! We do ask you refrain from single Instagram posts. Please, just put some effort into it!

If your post is interactive, you will need to reply to the majority of the comments before it counts. No “post and vanish into the mist” behavior. If you go the non-interactive route (like a narrative), we strongly encourage you to be active elsewhere. Comment around on the FP, join the mod-hosted FFAs, mingle a little. We will not be counting comments, but here’s the thing: interaction is what keeps games alive. No interaction = ghost town. And we are not building a ghost town.

character limits
You’re allowed three characters here at ~coastlife. Three. Not thirty. Let’s be reasonable. Please only take on what you can actually handle. We love ambition, but we love follow-through more. And make sure you tell the mods who you’re playing. This is an honor system, emphasis on honor

If we find out you’re running secret extras you didn’t disclose? That’s a fast track to removal. No spy games.

We have zero issue with multiples. Play them. Love them. Create chaos (the fun kind), but do not line cross, manufacture drama, be sneaky (again, no spy games) or use characters manipulate others. Keep it clean, keep it fair, and we’re golden.

extentions and misc things
Need a hiatus? An extension? Life doing the absolute most? Just drop us a comment. Hiatuses run one week at a time, up to up to there weeks total. If you miss activity during that window, all we ask is that you play a little catch-up when you’re back. No drama. Just communicate! If you know you'll need more than the one week up front, just let us know. We are reasonable creatures.

If you decide the game isn’t for you, that’s totally fine. Not every sandbox fits every kid. But please, don’t ghost us. We promise we won’t chase you with pitchforks. Just leave a comment and we’ll remove you cleanly and quietly.

Now, about PBs. We do not allow PB overrides. If someone is listed, they’re taken. You’ll need to wait until we’ve fully removed that PB before applying with or switching to it. Face swaps? Sure. We’re reasonable. But let’s not turn your character into a seasonal skin rotation. Keep it sensible.

Please be respectful
While we are not a smut-focused community, we understand that some writers may choose to explore mature or sexual themes in their writing. That said, we ask all members to be mindful and respectful when approaching or discussing this type of content.

Please remember there are real people behind every character. Not everyone shares the same comfort levels, interests, or boundaries when it comes to sexual content, and those boundaries should always be respected. Conversations whether in comments, OOC spaces, or plotting should remain considerate, consensual, and appropriate for a shared community environment in both public spaces and private interactions.

Any discussion or inclusion of sexual content should always be consensual between writers. This means checking in with your writing partners before introducing explicit themes, respecting a “no” without pushback, and avoiding unsolicited or overly graphic conversations unless your writing partner has okayed these interactions.

We also ask that members refrain from bringing explicit or kink-heavy discussion into general threads, comments, or OOC spaces where others have not opted in. If it’s not something everyone present has agreed to engage with, it likely doesn’t belong there. We are fine with these themes in narratives or moodboard when put behind a cut with appropriate trigger warnings.

Our goal is to maintain a comfortable, inclusive environment for everyone. If something you’re saying or writing could potentially make others uneasy, it’s worth reconsidering how (or if) it should be shared. When in doubt, err on the side of discretion and respect.

Failure to follow these expectations may result in moderator intervention. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if someone in game is making you uncomfortable and/or crossing any boundaries.
